shooting box

Hello;

I am thinking of building a shooting box also. Here are my thoughts.

1. Even locking castors invite movement. I will mostly shoot NRA bullseye and have a spotting scope mounted to the inside of the cover when it is folded up and open. Castors wouldn't be the be idea for me, I think.

2. I believe the commercial sizes are 13 tall (inches) and 18 long by 8 thick (depth) - or more, depending on capacity. I would not want to build less than 8 inches thick for stability (again, I will attach a spotting scope to the cover).

I was going to fabricate a wooden box 13 x 18 x 10 (33 x 46 x 25 cm, loosely converted). I will then slice around it with a skill saw or band saw, whatever. A table saw would work nicely, but I don't have one.

I will mark the box fr cutting as follows:

a. Make a line along the 18 inch top surface 4 inches from the front face of the box;

b. make a line along the 18 inch bottom surface 1 1/2 inches from the front face;

c. connect these lines.

I will use many brass corner protectors, a brass handle, and attach a hasp for a lock of some sort.

Good Luck,
Ed
