USA SHOOTING SHOTGUN TEAM EARNS SEVEN MEDALS AT 2024 CAT GAMES

COLO SPRGS, CO (March 19, 2024) – The USA Shooting shotgun team brought back an impressive seven medal haul from the 2024 Championship of the Americas (CAT) Games in Santo Domingo, Dominica Republic, March 1-8.

The trap earned a total of four medals, read more here, and skeet earned a total of three.

Julia “Lia” Nelson earned silver in Women’s Skeet by beating Chile in the finals. Nelson earned her slot in the finals after shooting 115/125 in the qualification round. Nelson shot a score of 52 in the finals.

The CAT Games marks Nelson’s first international medal in the open age category. Nelson, an Ada, Minnesota, native, earned two international medals in 2022 in junior skeet events.

Nelson won her second CAT Games medal with teammate Phillips Jungman in Mixed Team Skeet. The duo took home the coveted gold medal by besting Mexico in the gold medal match. The Americans shot a score of 43 in the final over Mexico’s 38.

Jungman, a Caldwell, Texas, native, is no stranger to international success. He currently has five International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup medals, two ISSF World Championship medals and is a Tokyo 2020 Olympian. Jungman is also a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit.

Jungman claimed his second medal in Men’s Skeet Team with Jordan Sapp and AJ Nomina. The trio earned silver after earning a spot in the gold medal match by shooting a total overall qualification score of 212/225.
