The Desert Midwinter begins on Feb. 18 with the International portion and on the 19th for Conventional Pistol.

C'mon down! The temperatures here are in the 80s and there is plenty of cold beer to cool the fire in the blood.

You can also wander down to the Chinese Cultural Center for New Year's Dinner. It's the Year of the Goat! (Ram? Sheep?)

You need cold to wash down the fiery Mex food here. (At least that's my story.)

There's little in the world more fiery than a good Vindaloo, and you won't find cold beer in any self-respecting curry shop in England.

But that's England. American beers have to be cold or you'll be able to taste them.

The beer would also be Mexican, but I usually drink Czech or Belgian.

Yes you do. Indian Restaurants (sometimes called Curry Houses but never Curry Shops) sell fizzy lager which is served chilled. It's proper beer (bitter/pale/ale/mild etc) that should be served unchilled from a cool cellar either by a hand pump or straight from the barrel. Since most pubs nowadays chill their cellars for lager, real ale (traditional beer) is served colder than it was 50 years ago.

Hotter than a vindaloo? Sir should try the Phal.
