Reduced Target for Competition

Many clubs shoots FP using 50 yards target, including PTO or even state championship. One IIRC even does 50 reduced to 25. But while the target itself is adjusted to match 50M, the .22lr cartridge, does not change its size. So does that mean all these matches we have using 50 yards (or reduced to 25) technically cannot be counted 100% for official purposes (for example, national record).
If one clubs uses 50M, the other uses 50 Yard adjusted, there is still a difference...

Most match directors know that, when shooting at reduced distances, they must use targets specifically made for that distance. And, most target companies use the specifications from the appropriate governing body, e. g. USAS.
USAS reduced target specifications include adjustments for the non-changing diameter of the bullet hole.
Bottom line is if the match directors use the correct targets at the correct distance, the NRs are legal.

The reason they use 50 yards instead of 50 meters is that most US ranges are set up for NRA 2700 Bullseye matches.
The 50 yard targets have their own "records". Just shoot whatever is offered and you'll be OK. You probably won't even have to make a sight adjustmentfrom 50 yards to 50 feet.
