New event to be launched at the 2009 Rifle and Pistol National Championships

This year USA Shooting will be offering a new event for pistol shooters. The 10m Standard Air Pistol event will be introduced as a demonstration event at the 2009 National Championships. Earlier this year the Competitions Department conducted a survey to determine if there was interest in a Five Shot Standard Air Pistol event. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive and receptive to the idea. With such a great response, the event was added to the 2009 USA Shooting National Championships program as the opening event. The event will be held in the afternoon of June 13th and will finish up on the14th (two courses of fire and no final).

The pistols used for this event must be a 4.5mm (.177) compressed air or gas pistol, with a magazine which can be loaded with five (5) pellets. The match will be two courses of fire and will be open to men and women of all age groups. The event will be 40 shots for men and 30 shots for women. The event is divided into series of five (5) shots, each in ten (10) seconds. In each series, five shots are fired on one (1) Stationary Air Pistol target in the time limit for the series. Cash awards will be given to the top three shooters in the Open (Men's and Women's) and Junior (Men's and Women's) events, provided there are at least six (6) competitors in each event. To encourage participation in this event, we are offering an introductory entry fee of $30. We encourage all shooters to take advantage of this new pistol event!

The match program and registration will be posted on the USAS website within the next few days.
