Rifle Into India - customs tax

Post by Chris Lorensen »

Can anyone tell me the process/cost of getting a target rifle into India? It would be coming with me by airline from the US. I am living in northeast India (Mizoram), belong to a very small shooting club there, and am in the process of getting my firearms license.

The info I've read so far (mainly from Abhijeet Singh's site) indicates that customs wants a fee equal to 1.8 times the value of the gun. For a new Anschutz 1907, that's just too much. Any way of getting around that?

Thanks for any help,
Chris

As far as I know the only weapon you can import is air rifle/air pistol. All other weapons can only be imported by you if you are a "renowned shooter".....that is if you are in the top 25 in that category.
