The 12th Precinct Pistol and Archery club in Harwood has an Air Pistol league that would probably be a great place for you to start. They also hold matches and I placed an ad for them on this site at:

Damascus IWLA
We (http://www.damascusiwla.org) hold Field Target (air rifle) matches once-per-month and have air pistol shooting every Monday evening. We are just a bit east of Damascus, MD. We have one AP match-per-year for club championship.
I, too, was looking for coaching but no luck so far. Having someone to compare notes with helps.
