UK-specific: update on Steyr UK's woes

Post by davidjohngoode »

Here's some shocking news from Steyr UK's web site:
BREAKING NEWS!! Thursday 20th October 2016

Firearms Officer for North Yorkshire Police has this afternoon been to seize our five LP50 5 shot pistols as they are deeming them section 5 prohibited weapons.
Sorry to inform you this means we can no longer service or repair any LP5 or LP50.
And in more news: North Yorkshire Police Firearms unit will be closed until further notice as all staff are busy scouring North Yorkshire for the manager's misplaced collection of small gaily-coloured glass balls...

You have my sympathies. To me as an America, it's just inconceivable that the police would go on a raid to seize airguns. AIRGUNS!

Just wow.

Unfortunately an act of Parliament didn't include airguns on an exemption list.

I doubt any doors were broken down, but still it's pointless.

It was not a "blue light" dramatic raid. Steyr UK knew several days ago that the seizure was going to happen.

Please don't imagine that things aren't going on in the background to try to return things to normal.

Panic buy guns. I don't care. But could the paranoid idiots in the USA please NOT hoard more ammo. You've already made .22lr shooting up in Canada a pain.

More guns are owned now in the USA than 8 years ago. Why you're all panicked now because virtually the same administration is likely to get in is beyond me.

And that level of paranoia (real or imagined) isn't helping level headed people (liberal and conservative) convince other level headed people that gun culture isn't always about hoarding guns for the coming apocalypse.

Good luck to Steyr UK and all UK shooters and businesses to mobilise and achieve a liveable balance and compromise.

Someone shot a hedgehog with an airgun in Eastern England last month. It made BBC news website with an xray photo and a report from RSPCA. That is what we are up against. A few child fatalities in a decade in UK persuaded the Scottish parliament to make all airguns subject to firearms licensing and no back yard use. It's the "Mums against nasty things" organisations who get the attention of the vote buyers like The Scottish first minister.

In america mass child fatalities prompt teachers to get firearms training. That is the differrence.

SBF we get our 22 ammo the same place I assume you do. England, Germany, and Finland. I assume you have importers from those 3 companies bringing it in to Canada. As to gun rights in general you worry about your guns we will worry about ours. You people DO understand, don't you, that the Revolution against the bloody damn king of England whose successor you still bow down to 250 years later was started because he tried to take our guns away? And not about taxes, tea, voting, or what ever else they teach you in your schools.

I can assure you that Obama did every thing he could do to restrict our gun rights and the Hilldabeast will continue his program.

Maybe you need to need to make an appointment to see a shrink about your paranoia. Oh thats right you cant get an appt to see a dr up there you have to come to America.

Well done. You've outed all sorts of conspiracy nut issues in one post. The Boston Tea Party being historical revisionism is a new one for me. Thanks for the laugh.

But I recommend you stick to lies and conspiracies about your own gov't and history that others might not want to bother looking up. Don't prove yourself an uniformed fool and a complete ass by making up lies about my country.

I can get an appointment for virtually any specialist without any problem. And walk out after the appointment only having to pay for parking.

So stop lying and talking about things you obviously have no clue about.

If you're that blinded with obvious political propaganda on one issue it's hard to take you seriously on any other point.

SBF I shall endeavor to support my assertions one by one.

1. Health care. I think the following articles are but a few proving that point and they all come from Canadian news sources.

https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2016/0 ... -late.html

http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canad ... tudy-finds

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/windsor/e ... -1.2997726

2. I honestly don't understand how to address your assertion that we have impacted your 22 shooting. We get our ammo the same place you do.

3. The Boston Tea Party did not start the Revolution. As every school boy and girl in America learns, the King's occupying army marched out of Boston on April 18, 1775 toward Concord to confiscate the American's firearms. The battle was held in Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775. Two years after the Boston Tea Party.
I honestly believe that if it were not for this aggression on the part of the King America's independence would have come about more peacefully.

4. Gun confiscation.

On October 16, 2015 Clinton said at a town hall meeting in New Hampshire that, "it would be worth considering" an Australian style firearms confiscation program. It can't get much clearer than that.

Anything else I can help you with?

Tempers flare in this (great?/used-to-be great?/soon-to-be-great-again?) country of ours. The natives are restless...

Before they flare any more, I'm locking this thread.

IMHO, what used to be a reasonably friendly level of banter has started to get a bit nasty recently.
