Ft Hood shooting

Post by Levergun59 »

My son is now at Ft. Hood with the 1st Cav. Are their any places to shoot 22 3p indoor or outdoor, or NRA 600yd military matches? All his gear is up in Wisconsin but after he settles in it can be driven down pronto. Any input is appreciated

The place to contact is the NRA competitions dept. And USA Shooting.
They can give you every place within the zip code that runs matches.
Also get the lastest digital copy of Shooting Sports, USA, they list every match in the country.

The Texas State Rifle Assn. has many matches listed on their web site:

For smallbore information, contact one of the smallbore rifle directors on the following page:

Austin Rifle club in Manor (about 90 mins away) does small bore (not sure if it's 3P or not), and runs 200 yd reduced NRA High Power matches. Temple Gun Club (about 45 mins away) runs 300 yd reduced NRA High Power Matches. If he can make the appropriate connections Camp Swift is about 2 hours way, and they routinely run full 600 yard High Power matches, and normally host the state championships every year. When they're not doing that, they tend to have full distance practice time if you know who to talk to.
