Re: Focal length at 50 metres

Have you tried shooting with no lenses at all? My test for students is to ask if they can see nice round black dots on the target from either 25yds or 50m. If they can then for a first attempt try shooting "as is". My starting front sight size is 3.8 to 3.9. Other will differ I am certain....

New Zealand Palma Team - Looking for Port Clinton Assistance

Ross Mason here, Chairman of New Zealand Nat Rifle Association and also a NZ Palma Team member shooting at the World Champs at Camp Perry in August. I am looking for a shooting club near Port Clinton / Camp Perry who might be able to assist the NZ team with finding or borrowing a bit of heavy gear w...

Re: Ideal conditions for storage of guns in a safe

The key to preventing condensation is to keep the dew point below the ambient temperature. Heating the vault is the easiest way to achieve this. I have just installed an 8 watt "Pet Bed Heater" into our club safe. This is a heat pad for the cat or the dog to sleep on. The biggie issue for ...

Re: Noise in the World Cup Finals

I have an experience for you. I am going to take you to an place where you are going to stand/lie next to a whole lot of others. You will then take your rifle/Pistol (which is noisier than a rifle BTW) and shoot 60+ shots at a wee back hole. While you are doing this 50+ others are going to make such...

Re: Sling suggestions..........

Ross I suggest you rethink your entire prone position. First, the original poster, Kevin Nevius is a 2 time US National Prone Champion, Eric Uptagraft is an Olympic prone shooter. You should listen and learn from what they say. Thanks for the tip gwsb. I think I can safely say I have a wee bit of h...

Re:

Yes Ross, you are nuts. Every prone shooter of high skill level I know shoots a tight prone position. There is more to it than just good hold. Good recoil management is a big part of it. Comparing prone to standing is like comparing apples to rocket ships. And yes, MEC slings are crap. Eric U Phew....

Am I missing something here? How do people stretch slings so much that the rivets pull out? The sling only has to support the arm and the rifle. I can only think that people are jamming the butt so hard into the shoulder that it is putting ginooormous pressure onto the sling. Try letting the rifle a...

Ummmm.....guys......its a sling. It holds the rifle up. That is all. These ones are old school. Newer school was leather. Opinion stated that both of these were unstable in different weather conditions. They stretched was the cry. Then came the synthetic ones. They were alleged to not stretch. Ergo:...

Bryan996: I suggest two things to check. Both are practical methods of identifying and curing these undetectable flinches. 1. If you have a Scatt or Noptel use it to check your heartbeat shake on the trace. It will show up as a regular shaped trace in time with the beat - surprise!! I had the proble...

Nope Jas, "We" - and I DO mean the NZ "We" - should have a wolkd class range ANYWHERE in the country. There was one once up in Auckland. It wented. We can talk about supercities and council changes but it is bloody close to 10 years since was closed. To litigate why it hasn't hap...

Here is my pennies worth. My experience is that the eyes cannot accommodate the very large contrast between white and black of the target. Black is black. No matter how many filters you put in, it remains black. However, with white, any filter drops the brightness. My mantra is use the filters to de...

Thanks to those boys and girls up in Auckland who are part of the Disabled shooting sports with their fund raising, organisation and enthusiasm, they have built up a quality 10m range with about 15 mounds and are in the process of acquiring electronic targets. THATS where those targets are coming fr...

Yes we have dropped the ball.

Since the Defence Force closed the Ardmore range so their secret black force could train to their hearts content without civvies watching them Auckland does not even have a 50m range within 150km.

As a shooter in this country I am ashamed and I apologise to you all.
