Re: Shaking limbs loose before shooting?

Whatever you do, warm up or not, be consistent with training and matches (Personally, I think warming up helps). I've seen shooters arrive at matches to see other competitors warming up and then they, too, will mimic them even though they don't train that way. Usually, their match results will suffe...

Re: Bullseye coach sought

Longfellow, It might be a little late in the season, but try to find good outdoor match that draws high-scoring shooters (indoor matches could work, too.) Participate. Introduce yourself to the top shooters and match director and ask them about good coaches in the area. Be specific about your coachi...

Re: Hammerli 208

First step would be to make sure the gun is unloaded, with the magazine out, obviously, and remove the grips and the slide. Then, examine the pistol, especially around all of the machined holes/openings. I've only seen cracks on the left side of the 208, near the slide lock/release. Look forward of ...

Re: Hammerli 208

Frame cracks on the older 208 pistols are not isolated cases. In the 90s, at Camp Perry, Hammerli was there with Christian, one of their gunsmiths. He replaced many frames, in very short time, for free. He was partial to Sam Adams, though, so we'd always keep him well supplied. The cracks were on th...

Re: .22 Chamber Brush Problem

Gwhite, thanks for another detailed post and many thanks for what you are doing for your team; it's much appreciated. One thing I used to do with a troubled Benelli was to soak a cleaning patch in Hoppe's 9, wrap it around a brush, twirl it a bit in the chamber, and let it sit inside the chamber ove...

Specifically, what sort of stand are you looking for? Is it the one linked above or is it a spring stand for the table top (my guess).

Re: Duane Tallman

As with Scott, I met Duane at Wolf Creek, around ‘95. We became instant friends and I always looked forward to seeing him and Bill Wayda. When Wolf Creek hosted the NRA Collegiate Pistol Championships, Duane could not wait to show the MIT team how the electronic targets worked, a huge bonus for the ...

Re: Purdue University loosing its range!

I have PM'd Norm regarding some information issues regarding dates, administrative positions, and sexes. I explained to Norm that after pistol was dropped, almost everyone assumed it was because of liberal administrators and their anti-gun agenda. That was never the case, but rather financial (budge...

Re: Purdue University loosing its range!

Best of luck with your range at Purdue. Let me correct some things about the MIT info just posted. Nothing happened to the rifle team as they are still varsity and have a great coach, facility, and equipment. Pistol went to club and is well supported by alumni financially and coaching. It was not a ...

Re: Hap Rocketto for NRA BOD

You have my vote. I am not diluting it with others this year. I have seen this alluded to a few times. What does this mean? John, others will explain it better than I, the ballot allows for the individual voter to vote for several people, or a slate. The seats are awarded to the top vote getters. S...

Why No US Junior Pistol Shooters at Junior WC in Suhl?

Just read the USAS Press Release about the junior team members participating at the Junior WC in Suhl. 14 Shotgun and 6 Rifle will be traveling. Why are there no US junior pistol shooters participating?

Yes, John, there are. But, THE other school chooses to use its shooting range as a book repository.

Re: How much does shooting matter to a school like MIT?

Mr. Ketchup, If MIT is your dream school and you wish to be accepted then your first step would be to proof read your post and anything else you write and post. Be careful how you write your application essays because, if they are written as your post was, you will not make it past the first admissi...

Re: Current state of the International Pistol in US

Dave,

Anderson's 2680 score might be the current national record, I'm not sure. I know that many shooters have shot higher than 2668.

The 2668 score by Don Hamilton, though, is the current record for Camp Perry. I did not make that clear.

Thanks for noticing that.

Re: Current state of the International Pistol in US

Arnie is always worth reading and, better yet, listening to. In the '90s, one of the shooting 'gimmicks' that Arnie and I discussed was the Red Dot sight, usually an AimPoint at the time. The Army was testing them in the '80s and, by the '90s, the dots were seen at all the big matches 'cept hardball...

Congratulations on the new record, Jim! One point and two Xs, so that's a good jump in score, too. Old record of 893-57x W.
