Re: Hand/skin/grip adhesion

I just bought this stuff. It dries quickly and if you apply it sparingly it doesn't make a mess:

Re: Double hard point trigger?

The mechanism could be fairly simple. As the trigger is pulled through the first part of its movement, it a lobe on the trigger engages a cam which provides the required resistance but is not connected to the sear or any other part of the firing mechanism. After the trigger passes the cam, it goes t...

Re: Double hard point trigger?

It seems to me that it would pass the test. The first weight hump would keep the trigger from activating, then a bit of additional pressure would cause it to clear the first weight curve and drop through the second. It might appear to have a really long second stage but the weight would definitely p...

Re: Cross eye dominance

Neil - You have a better shot at using your right hand instead of your left than someone in the opposite situation. As a lefty in a righty's world, you have already been using your non-dominant hand more than a right-hander would and have developed more dexterity even if you are not completely ambid...

Re: Brass cleaning and lead exposure

Yes, mercury is no longer used in primers - it has been replaced by lead styphnate (lead 2,4,6-trinitroresorcinate). The residue that remains in the brass is dry and, to a degree, friable which is how the lead gets airborne when handling spent brass and especially spent primers. Of course, the quant...

Re: Brass cleaning and lead exposure

Somehow just being a gun owner now means that one has adopted an "unhealthy lifestyle"! Not exactly. The presence of firearms in the home is a known risk factor in suicide. I should note that there has been recent research showing that suicide among middle aged and older males in the US i...

Re: Case cleaning for reloading

I never had a problem with galling, so maybe the "Wash & Wax" dip I did after ultrasonic cleaning was preventing it. I was just doing it so that the brass would stay bright and wouldn't oxidize - I thought that variation in the oxidation of the cases would affect consistency of extract...

Re: Toz-35 replacement parts

There is a S&W spring that can be cut down to make a firing pin spring. I bought a couple and have used one so far but don't remember the details. A search of the Forum should tell you which one it is.

Re: Case cleaning for reloading

I used to use an ultrasonic cleaner. You can make your own cleaning juice for a fraction of the cost of the brand name stuff. There are plenty of formulas on the web, many of which should be avoided since they involve some acids which may alter the brass. I just took the ingredients from the MSDS of...

Re: Why We Love Guns - In One Photo

I don't know when drillings originated, but the cylindrical bit under the double barrel is probably the ramrod. This shotgun is a front loader if the date is correct.

Re: S&W 52-2 Owners Manual

If it came with the barrel bushing wrench, you should put that in a safe place. "Safe" as in some place where it won't be used on the gun. It isn't necessary and will just scratch the slide face. Oh, and welcome to the club - the 52 was my first CF target pistol and it is still the most fu...

Re: Where can I get a replacement electronic trigger mechani

Igor's blog has some pages on his development for an electronic trigger for the TOZ 35. Maybe there is something there you can use. I couldn't find a search function on the blog, but this is the page in which he presents the start of what he was working on: http://toz35.blogspot.gr/2011/02/toz-35-fr...

Re: target paper quality

I don't think the weight is the key. Kruger apparently uses very short fiber pulp which is why their targets break when you try to bend them. Recycled paper tends to have shorter fiber, so that may make a difference. I used to use 67 lb vellum cover for FP targets, but I don't know how that will wor...

Re: Mystique of the S&W Model 52?

The problem with the 52 is the barrel, the .355 bore dia, the locking method, and the bushing. I am a little confused about the term "unforgiving" as applied to the Model 52. I had assumed that it would relate to the ergonomics and that an unforgiving gun would be inherently accurate but ...
