In general, American guns are designed to be lifetime guns. Robust and strong like a quarterhorse. Euro guns are like thoroughbreds, pretty but finicky and shot lived. They have lots of tiny parts that wear and break. Probably much of it is a cultural difference and attitude toward recreational shoo...

Re: new fangaled European guns

Now that isnt to say that a Buckmark or a Mk 2 or 3 isnt competitive in bullseye. After a trigger job and maybe a new barrel you should be able to turn in some respectable scores, I did it. I used to shoot with a fellow who shot an unmodified Mark II, even the stock plastic grips. He was classified...

I try not to think. It's like executing a heel-toe down shift. If you think about anything other than slowing down you'll miss the shift, grind some metal off your gears, and not be in a good position for coming out of the turn. The same is true for boxing, riding a bike, playing the guitar . . . if...

A friend who was on the US Shooting Team told me that you can't think, you just have to do. I think that Yoda borrowed some of his ideas from my friend, "There is no try, there is only do or not do."

The obvious answer is do what works for you. In my mind, the whole shooting process, like any physical activity, should be on autopilot. Big Ben doesn't think about what he has to do to hit his receiver, he just does it. Unless you think that changing and working on that change will result in a mark...

In college? So I'm guessing that you're pretty young. At least younger than 30. If so, you're eyes are probably still working well. If that is the case, stick with iron sights until you can't see the front sight anymore which will happen shortly after age 40. I'm a firm believer that you need to mas...

Actually, racing stripes create a wave of ultra-coolness in front of the car which pulls the car along at a higher speed.

As I understand it the rib did a couple things, it gave you a better sight picture and a better sight for adjustments. Also, it raised the sighting plane a bit which can help.

Okay, this is downright cruel. Someone says that they might have the grips that I need but they don't leave contact information. So I ask again and they say, "Hey, I said that" but again, no contact information because they aren't registered. Let's try this one more time. I'm looking for a...

Did you use the screws I sent you? Yep. Hey! I'll blame you. My next call is to my lawyer to see if we can file suit for damages to reputation and public embarassment. Ought to be able to get at least $20 out of that. :-) I wonder if this is related to those QC issues that I hear about with IZH pis...

Must have a screw loose . . .

I moved about six years ago and never got around to finding a new place to shoot. One of the local recreation departments offers a "target shooting class" so I figured that it might be a good way to blow off the cobwebs. I found the IZH-35M down in the basement, bought new batteries for th...

About 30 years ago I was on the pistol team in college and it was a club sport and we had constant battle with the recreation sports people over schudling and received minimal funding. We didn't shoot international, we just shot conventional pistol. The Navy ROTC unit also had a pistol team and they...

I rarely cleaned my Rugers. If I started getting misfires, I'd clean out the area inside the receiver around the ejetion port but rarely took them apart. Do start with iron sights. It helps you master the fundamentals and you won't be handicapped if you ever take up a discipline that doesn't allow o...

Get a trigger job and maybe some better grips. I'm partial to Fung grips but that's because I've had mine for almost 20 years. After you've wrung all you can out of the Buckmark, you can start investigating a "better" pistol. Also, when you have some more experience you can better decide w...

I have a set of Fung grips for my Ruger Mk II. I got them back in 91 or 92, when he was fairly new in the business. I sent him a photo copy of my hand and he made the grips from that. Amazing. Nothing needed to be adjusted on mine but I know that some need to be tweaked. I like the adjustable shelf ...

I used to shoot the centerfire stage with my Dan Wesson Model 15 VH6. I think that's the right designation. That's a six inch vented heavy barrel. The vent doesn't do much other than look cool. I fired slow, timed and rapid fire stages thumb cocking it. Did it work? Yep. At 50 yards it would keep th...

If I wasn't OOOOOOLD and needed dot sights, I would love to have one of those on one of my 1911s. I always though that they were uber cool, if oooooold guys are allowed to say "uber cool."

Are you looking to sell it?
