Re: Winchester 52 D

The Win. 52D has no weak points, never needed any parts. It has a bolt, ejector/loading tray and trigger ass'y., none of which are fragile. The earlier magazine fed rifles were also very durable with perhaps needing a magazine if damaged somehow. Wolff makes firing pin springs and I usually replace ...

Re: Unusual stock for an older M54 Anschutz rifle.

The grip was originally checkered at the factory. Looks like it's been filled in somewhat by the new finish. My guess about the buttplate is that it was cut short for some reason (perhaps for a b/p adjustable for length or just for a shorter shooter) and the new b/p was to restore it close to origin...

small bore sights

Might I suggest buying the 1907 used rifle with sights. Much better than the 1903, which has the lighter 64 action. The sights with it will undoubtedly will be sufficient to get you started and fellow competitors can educate you on newer sights. If you want to buy new Anschutz sights and want the be...

Re: need parts for a 1600 series action

I have used the current bolt stops for 1400 series actions, so don't see why they wouldn't work with the X actions also.

Re: NRA Board Member Attendance

Looks like 2 others had ZERO attendance also, "excused" or not. You'd think if they just don't have the time for it, they would bow out and let someone who will participate replace them. Or, if the meetings just aren't that important, why have them?

Re: Fouling Shots

I agree with Tim about it being dried fouling. I clean my prone rifles after every 1600 match with BoreTech's C4 carbon remover and a nylon brush. Usually takes about 5 rds. to settle down for a good X count at 50. I shoot outdoors year round and some matches are near or below freezing. When changin...

Re: 5 rounds magazine in small bore rifle?

Actually the first National Smallbore matches in which the new Win. 52 competed was at Sea Girt, New Jersey, about 1920 as I remember reading. Rapid fire was part of the course and so required a repeater to realistically compete. Winchester edged out the Savage Model 1919 because the Savage rifle ke...

Re: Smallbore - off season trainer

If you're looking at the medium level target rifles that are not too heavy, the 64 Anschutz is the best bet. There have been numerous stock models with the 64, so you might look at one that has the ISU type stock (deep in the area in front of the t/g). It's a little more suitable for 4 position shoo...

Re: Walther KK500 trigger issue - not releasing firing pin

Just a few suggestions - I would use a small fine honing stone on the "nick" you found to make sure it does not have a small burr catching on the trigger sear. I would remove the trigger, clean it in naptha and blow it dry before reinstalling. Also make sure the overtravel stop is not set ...

Re: Shortening smallbore rifle barrels

Having a shorter barrel is a very good idea, But; If you have a very accurate barrel, chances are you will loose accuracy. I think it has to do with the different lathes the barrel is cut and crowned on. And the fact 2 different machinists were used. And is the action threaded or not. This happened...

Re: Anschutz 1913 Ejectors

The ejector falls out easily when the loading tray is removed or if the spring retainer is knocked off. Try a magnet in the area where you worked. Perhaps those are just the old and new numbers for the same part. I have used the same ejector for all 54 models thru the 1900 series. Any Anschutz parts...

Re: Anschutz 1413/1813

Very little work required. If the 1813 still has the safety, a little relief will need to be made for it. The rest will be obvious; a little around the tang, maybe a little around the trigger and depending on the barrel the 1411 was made for (there were several barrel contours on early to late 1411'...

Re: Shortening smallbore rifle barrels

Jim, the short answer to your question is that it depends on the barrel as to which end you can cut off. I have shortened a large number of .22 target barrels over the years for varying reasons. I generally do not cut off the muzzle end of a factory button rifled barrel, such as an Anschutz. While I...

Re: Anschutz rail accessories

Concerning the Freeland palmrests; Freeland made a model to fit American rails like the 40XB and Win. 52 D/E and also made a model to fit the Anschutz rail.

Re: Remington 541x is it sufficient enough to compete in 4-H

Pete has it right. Might be stepping on a few toes, but rifles like Savage, CZ, H&R M12, 541X, even old 64 Match, are not in the same league as Anschutz 54's, Walthers and even Win. 52 or Rem. 40X when properly stocked and with good triggers. There are particularly a lot of the older Anschutz 54...

Re: Value Anschutz 1813

A palmrest is used to support the rifle with the non-firing hand in the standing position. A shooting sling attaches to the handstop (which fits in the forend rail, likewise the palmrest) and is used in the other positions. The 1813 style stock was designed for 3 position shooting (prone, kneeling &...

Re: Value Anschutz 1813

A true 1813 has a thumbhole stock and is a poorly designed stock for BR shooting. Plus you pay more for this stock and none of the accessories you are paying for -- hook buttplate, palmrest, handstop -- are used in BR shooting. The same barreled action was used in the 1811 prone stock model, which c...

Re: Cold Weather Shooting

I shoot outdoor prone year round. Supposed to be 27* at match time in the morning. I take a heavy square terrycloth pot holder (one that has room for almost the whole hand inside), put one of the chemical handwarmers (as big as will fit) inside and lay it beside me (shooting hand side). When my fing...

Re: Well, isn't that special!

Two thoughts on the subject: 1. As US citizens, it's none of our business - including the NRA's. B. Canada has restricted airguns for years, and it doesn't seem to have had a profound effect. And an afterthought: III. Restrictive gun laws in much of the English-speaking world hasn't diminished esse...
