Re: Thoughts on reforming RF
All that went on thirty years ago, but didn’t find enough traction and it seems ISSF has abandoned it. At least some of those rapidfire air pistols are still around. Maybe you could lead a resurrection? More like ISSF quietly strangled RF Air. And rightly so, in my opinion. Had it gotten traction, ...

Re: Thoughts on reforming RF
Here in the United States, I don't think there are more than 20 RF bays...in a county with 320 million people. Part of this is the cost - an RF bay is several thousand dollars. Part is the fragility - an RF bay can't be left out for the Duffer Brigade to shoot up with 9mm. My thinking is that RF cou...

Thoughts on reforming RF
I'd like to throw out some ideas I've had concerning Rapid Fire, see what people think.... 1. At present, RF is a very rare sport. Mostly due to the lack of RF target bays. These are good for little other than RF, but are too large and often too fragile to be left at most ranges unattended - the Duf...

The precision shooting sports are under pressure from the Taktikewl Tommies. All over the world.

Re: Cateracts and seeing the target
Cataracts tend to form at the center of the lens, but not precisely so. Sometimes, you can see around it - especially if you can put a filter on the glasses that will open up the iris and let light go through the portions of the lens that are not occluded. I wound up shooting a MLAIC World Champions...

I'm not left-handed, but I can vouch for Don's bona-fides. I know him IRL.

Re: For you point buying morons....
You don’t buy points. You lose the points you shoot by buying unsuitable equipment. You cannot improve with gear that does not shoot on call. If the war calls for F35s, showing up with a biplane doesn’t give you the moral high ground. It's a crappy analogy, but I'll play along. Equipment suitable f...

Flintlocks, especially the smoothbore pistols, are a post-graduate education in follow-through. Your technique has to be flawless.

Re: Shooting after premium lens replacement eye surgery?
I seriously considered having one eye done for distance, the other for close up...mostly because I had wound up that way for nearly a year after having one eye done. But I ultimately had both eyes done for distance vision, which gives me good performance down to about 3 feet. For reading, computers,...

Re: Shooting after premium lens replacement eye surgery?
I had cataract surgery done on both eyes. After discussion with the eye doc, I went with monofocal lenses, to give best acuity. Multifocals work by projecting two images onto the retina, and hoping the brain will pick the one with the best focus. The current accomodative lens isn't consistent, and d...

Re: Shaking things up, escaping ruts, quantity training — how to stay motivated?
I would interrupt serious Olympic training (Free and Air, usually 4-5 times a week and boring as hell) every now and then with a day shooting Blackpowder just for the fun of it. Dry fire...cap did not go off. Sight picture...lots of smoke. Hold...shoot 50m with a .44 Follow through...shoot the Flin...

Re: scores from Olympic tryouts
I was surprised to see how badly the Finals quashed some top scorers. Doesn't surprise me as much. Finals ratchet the stakes up considerably. I'm used to shooting muzzleloading events that are 10 or 13 shots...and at a National or World Championship, those dozen shots are the difference between bei...

Re: Wider rear sight for Walther GSP
MY preferred method would be to take a 3/16" chainsaw file and file a half-moon notch. It's REALLY hard to screw it up. The Russians were very successful with this. I like it a lot. I've thought about trying something along those lines myself. My Toz-35 came with the full sight set, including ...

Re: new airpistol in luggage
Declare it when you check the bag. Ask for a firearm card, which will go inside. It will need to be in a hard-sided locking case. On arrival in the USA, declare it to Customs. You should not have any trouble, but expect to wait a bit while they figure things out.

Re: Hammerli 280 repair - US
Also, is the gun an early model, with two spurs on the front of the upper, or a later one, with one big spur? The early 280s in .32 are known for throwing the first shot off - mine will consistently put the first shot 3 inches high.

Re: Aging and Score Decline
My own experience has been that my scores started slipping at 55...which is frustrating as hell. Part of it was cataract issues, though. And I'm not certain I've got the shooting prescription for the post-cataract eyes nailed down.

Can we improve clearance into the USA when travelling w/firearms?
Rant here...I'm a member of the U.S. International Muzzle-Loading Team, have been traveling overseas with firearms to competitions for the last 25 years. I've never had issues getting into any European country, unless you count the German Customs official who was a fellow BP shooter and wanted to ch...

Re: Commonwealth games
If 5 shot rapidfire airpistol comes in after Paris (strong rumour only), may be they will include it, who knows! Oh no, another nail in the coffin of guns that go bang! Bob Which is why ISSF has been so very careful to strangle RF Air. And I think they are likely to continue to do so - rightly, in ...
